The 166 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) facility, integrated with an 80 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), will enhance grid reliability while supporting the growing energy needs of the Visayas region.
Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, Philippines, 7 August 2026 – Levanta Renewables, the Southeast Asian renewable energy platform backed by Actis, today held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Barotac Viejo Solar Power Project, marking a major milestone in the development of its 166 MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) facility integrated with an 80-MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Developed through its project company, Magallanes Solar Energy Corp., the project is scheduled to commence commercial operations in Q2 2027.
Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 261 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power around 136,000 households, while avoiding an estimated 200,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE), national and local government agencies, project partners and community stakeholders gathered to commemorate the groundbreaking of the project. The ceremony featured the official groundbreaking and the lowering of a project time capsule, marking the commencement of construction.
